Comprehensive reprint with revisions edition. First published 1967

The seventh edition of this, the world's most distinguished Atlas, has been in preparation for five years, and is published to mark the 200th anniversary of The Times.

The Atlas has undergone massive updating: there is a new section devoted to the Earth Sciences and Astronomy, incorporating the very latest knowledge; there are fourteen new pages of magnificent physical maps of the world; a new feature on map projections and an illustrated list of geographical comparisons.

The maps themselves have been extensively revised: Ethiopia has 510 name changes, Australia and New Zealand 1100, the USA 520, China has 690 and Indonesia and Malaysia over 1000; we have added Basque and Catalan names in Northern Spain, and Greenland and Somalia have completely new spelling systems. Roads and railways throughout the world have also undergone updating.

The index to the maps, containing some 210,000 names with descriptions and coordinates of latitude and longitude, has also been entirely checked and reset to take account of all the changes to the maps.

The Times Atlas of the World, printed in eight colours by the Edinburgh Cartographers, John Bartholomew & Son Ltd., is renowned throughout the world for the beauty and legibility of its maps and the unparalleled detail of coverage for all parts of the world. Times Books is confident that this latest edition will l1 warmly welcomed by travellers, libraries, students and businessmen everywhere.

"The finest reference atlas ever published." - Lord Shackleton, formerly President, The Royal Geographical Society
